An electronic scrapbook portraying the history of the Jacksonville Sister Cities program was recognized.
Arts & Culture Award (SCI) Atlanta, Georgia
Jacksonville was recognized for sending local students from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and the jazz band "Sugar Daddy" to perform at the jazz festival in Nantes, France.
Special Achievement Award Technology - SCI (Denver, Colo.)
Jacksonville was recognized for its innovative Video Teleconferencing Twinning Ceremony between Jacksonville and Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Special Achievement Award Public Health & Safety – SCI (Little Rock, Ark)
The Murmansk Dental Hygiene Project created by member Julie Buckingham was awarded this Special Achievement Award for 1999.
Best Overall Program – SCI (San Diego)
Jacksonville received this award for its overall program of exchanges with its five sister cities.
Volunteer of the Year Award to Jane Fleetwood – SCI (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Jane Fleetwood was recognized for her dedication and hard work for numerous international programs in Jacksonville.
Special Achievement Award Business and Trade – SCI (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Jacksonville received this award for member Mary Gebhart's project with international marketing students from the University of North Florida.
Special Achievement Award – SCI (Houston, Texas)
This award was given for the Medical Assistance Project that helped facilitate the donation and delivery of a heart-lung by-pass machine to Murmansk, Russia in 1992.
Best Medical Assistance Project – SCI (Tulsa, OK)
This award recognized the Medical Exchange Assistance Project between Jacksonville and Murmansk, Russia.
Best Single Project - SCI (Chicago, Ill.)
This award was given for "Murmansk: Sister at the Top of the World”, a 60-minute documentary done on Jacksonville’s Russian sister city.
Best Single Youth Project – SCI (Albuquerque, NM)
The award was given to Jacksonville for a 17-minute video produced by member Jane Fleetwood. It was written by fifth graders at Loretto Elementary School, depicting school and homelife in America as seen through the eyes of an 11 year-old.
Best Overall Program – SCI (Portland, Oregon)
Jacksonville's overall program of cultural exchanges with four sister cities was rated best among cities of 300,000 population or more.
